HISTORY: 74 year old male seen pre-op. This study is done to evaluate ventricular function.

PROCEDURE: M-mode and 2-D echo were performed using the standard views. This study is technically difficult.

M-MODE MEASUREMENTS: Technically difficult. Aortic root - 3 cm. Left atrium - 3.9 cm.

2-D ECHO STUDY: Somewhat technically difficult. Aortic root appears structurally normal. The aortic valve is calcified and somewhat thickened but appears to open well. The left atrium is normal. The mitral valvue leaflets are thin. The left ventricle is somewhat technically difficult to image but appears to be normal size. There may be slight hypokinesis at the apex. The remaining ventricular segments are probably normal. The right ventricle is not dialated. The right atrium is normal and the tricuspid valve appear normal.

DOPPLER STUDY: Doppler evaluation is technically difficult at this time.

CONCLUSIONS: 1. Technically difficult study.

 2. Normal size left ventricle with mild apical hypokinesis. Probably normal systolic function.

 3. Calcified and thickened aortic valve with adequate opening.
