CLINICAL DATA: 74 Y.O. R/O PE.

CHEST:

COMPARED TO: 11/4/91

The central line has been removed. There is some minimal pleural and parenchymal scarring but no pulmonary infiltrates or evidence of heart failure.

PULMONARY VENTILATION-PERFUSION SCAN:

Images were obtained during ventilation with 7 millicuries of Xenon 133 gas and after intravenous administration of 3 millicuries of Technetium 99M-MAA.

There are some patchy areas of decreased perfusion peripherally in both lungs. These are not complete perfusion defects but represent areas of diminished perfusion.

The ventilation scan demonstrated even washin but areas of air trapping, most severe in the left mid and lower lung.

I think that this scan represents a low probability of pulmonary embolism as there are no clear-cut perfusion defects.  I think that the picture of patchy decreased perfusion associated with scattered air trapping is most consistent with COPD.

IMPRESSION:

Low probability of pulmonary embolism.
